Why do Pilates?

Doing Pilates on a regular basis will keep you strong, flexible and toned. With the focus on deep breathing, integrated with your movement, it can also help relieve stress and anxiety. Risks of injury are reduced and balance and coordination improves.

How often should I do Pilates?

As Joseph Pilates said “After 10 sessions you’ll feel better, after 20 sessions you’ll look better and after 30 sessions you’ll have a new body’  This is a proven fact, though the commitment is essential. Pilates needs to be practiced on a regular basis, we recommend at least 2 sessions a week and once the principals of Pilates have been mastered you can also do your own practice at home, though nothing beats the eyes and cueing of a professional instructor.

I am a Senior can I attend a session?

Absolutely, Pilates is for any age, we like to call it ‘Active Ageing’ for the seniors. It increases muscle strength and bone density by allowing you to move your limbs against the force of gravity, spring resistance and your own body weight in a safe way. It especially  strengthens core muscles that improve posture and balance, plus it stabilizes joints and reduces the risk of injury. Our bodies were built for movement, so it is important to keep moving no matter your age.

What can I expect from the first session?

At your initial session we will discuss what you would like to achieve from pilates. A postural assesment will be done and you will be taken through some of the pilates fundamentals so we can see how your body moves, your level of fitness, any limitations, hypermobility etc. A program will then be designed based on the observations. If you have any queries that you feel may need some time prior to the session, please send an email and we will be happy to discuss.

I am recovering from an injury, will I be able to do Pilates?

When your core is strong, posture improves, relieving stress on the joints and muscles. This is one of the reasons Pilates is often recommended for those recovering from injury. Increased flexibility, muscle tone, and balance also improve with regular practice. Modifications can be made to some exercises for specific needs. We are happy to work alongside your physio, osteopath or other medical practitioner for your ongoing rehabilitation work.

What should I wear and bring to a session?

Wear your normal active wear but please make sure you have no, ZIPS or metal buttons, studs as these can damage the equipment.

Please wear clean socks or non-slip Pilates socks if you have them.

Jewellery and watches can also damage the equipment so please remove or take extra care when working out.
